A MIND UNLEASHED

For those of you who bothered to read the story, you will see that it is based (vaguely) on 'The Shining', the marvellous book by Stephen King and its subsequent film adaptation.

'A Mind Unleashed' was the first horror story that I'd written, although many may consider it more of a thriller, but anyway, it was inspired by the fact that I had seen a bit of the film 'The Shining' during the Christmas (or Halseymus) holidays. As you will see, some scenes in the story are inspired by those in the film. I couldn't get those memorable scenes out of my head, and so I decided to incorporate them into my own works, but placing the Powerpuff Girls as the protagonists. Many people are, to say the least, surprised by my choice of medium, but I stand by it. Although there is no clear figure of Wendy, Danny or Hallorann, there is the definite role of Jack, and it falls on Bubbles.

The Overlook Hotel

The hotel they stay in is based on the Overlook, although there is not an evil force in it. The hotel lobby looks to Buttercup 'a lot like the one in some movie she saw once'.

Jack Torrance 

The psychotic Bubbles is based on him. Her anger taking her over is like the Overlook taking over Jack.

Scenes from the film - 1

The scene where Bubbles is approaching Blossom up the stairs is remeniscent of the scene in the film where Jack does the same to Wendy. The line "Give me the bat" is taken from this scene.

Scenes from the film - 2 When Bubbles' arm comes through the door, replace it with an axe and you have this great scene.
Dick Hallorann The Professor running to rescue Blossom and Buttercup is vaguely like Hallorann trying to save Danny.

In a later part of the story, Bubbles says to Buttercup, "Don't you get it, Buttercup? No-one can hear you! Now shut the hell up and get what's coming to you!" This line is a modified version of lyrics from the Eminem song 'Kim', which read as follows : Don't you get it, bitch? No-one can hear you!/Now shut the fuck up and get what's coming to you!
